Carpet tiles are small pieces of carpet that fit together like a jigsaw. They are sometimes known as carpet squares and come in a couple of different sizes. They have been cropping up more and more in recent times with people either using them for playrooms or garages or making funky rugs. But what are the pros and cons?
Pros
– They are a great DIY project. They are generally easier to install than carpet on a roll
– You can be colourful and creative
– Less expensive
– Easy to replace individual tiles in the event of damage or staining
– They are very durable as they are designed for heavy footfall
– Better for allergies – carpet tiles are low pile so will hold less dust
Cons
– Not appropriate for steps – due to the adhesive backing not being strong enough
– Over time they can pull away at the seams especially cheaper options
– If you are using them for a large room, they may actually end up an expensive option compared to other flooring options
